Dates of Oman

D of the AtoZ Challenge

The Sultanate of Oman where I grew up is known for its beautiful beaches, rolling hills, bare mountains and the sandy desert.  The brown hue is predominant in most landscapes when I think of this country.  Another brown element to add to this natural canvas is dates!  Luscious brown and red dates hang tantalizingly almost touching the ground in parks, roads, in house gardens, and in public areas everywhere. It is a pity that commoners can’t pick them from the trees! Here are some pictures of these lovely date trees.

  1. Wow! Thanks for sharing. Why aren't commoners allowed to pick the dates?

  5. The pink variety is very sweet and juicy. Another interesting feature of private trees in oman is most of the fruit trees are planted outside of the house wall. So you see trees laden with dates, mangoes, chikoos and lemons lining the roads and not many passers by plunk them. A rare sight in India.

  6. Ah, the memories. I can almost taste the wonderful sweet dates in Oman. Your photos are delicious :) I really enjoyed the time I spent in Oman, although I think the summer would have gotten a bit to hot for my taste.

  13. It is how the Lord rewards. You sow one date seed and He returns thousands and thousands of sweet fruit every year without even watering the trees.

  14. For those who want to know, dates make for a pretty and natural sight on the scenic roads of Oman. By picking them, the beauty will be diminished and plus they are the property of the government which is why they cannot be picked.

  16. Lovely take on the topic, Richa and it's good to see you back to blogging in full form! About the dates - perhaps one can eat them by collecting once they fall on the ground naturally?!
